Firsthand reviewThe opening was citrusy, powdery and very woody, with a polished designer-cologne character that smelled synthetic but good. Musk and amber were present, while vetiver was surprisingly hard for me to pick out at first.
As it developed, the darker woody side became stronger, patchouli or dark amber, spice and an incense effect, even though I did not clearly smell olibanum. I wondered whether guaiac wood was responsible for much of the dense woody character. The drydown finally became more clearly vetiver and white musk, in a bourbon-vetiver direction. It also had a mature gentlemanly feel that reminded me of Guerlain and lasted a very long time.
